Aquila overview

Anglo American has significant investments within Australia and particularly in Queensland. We are Australia’s largest underground coal miner and the world’s third largest seaborne exporter of metallurgical coal, which is used in steel production for critical building and infrastructure around the world.

Anglo American currently operates two open cut and three underground metallurgical coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and we are now progressing the development of our underground Aquila Mine, near Middlemount, as part of our expansion projects.

Development activities are expected to commence in 2019 on the longwall operation, which will produce hard coking coal from the southern end of Anglo American’s existing Capcoal complex. The project is jointly owned by Anglo American and Mitsui Coal Holdings Pty Ltd, with Anglo American as the managing company.

Financial Accountant – Aquila Underground Mine

As a Financial Accountant in our organization, you will provide support to our mine site regarding financial accounting services. With a strong focus on delivering a month end result, your responsibilities will also include completion of balance sheet reconciliations, preparation of joint venture reports to our joint venture participants, and annual preparation of financial statements. At reporting periods your tenacity and resilience will guide you through tight time-frames and multi-tasking to deliver a result, prepare financial reporting deliverables and complete external audit requirements. You will also be a focal point to your allocated mine site regarding any accounting related issues and provide advice as required.

The successful candidate will have proven experience in both internal and external stakeholder engagement.  This is an opportunity to work for a multinational mining company as part of our new underground mine.

You will possess relevant degree qualifications in Commerce/Business and a CPA or CA qualification with up to 5 years' post-graduate experience in either business services or a commercial environment. You will work well in teams and process exceptional time management and communication skills.  Experience in the mining industry and knowledge of SAP ERP systems and systems migration will be highly regarded.

This role is based in Middlemount.

The project is currently in the approvals and early works stage. As a result, a variety of permanent, contract and fixed-term roles are available, depending on the suitability of candidates.
